Other World Computing (OWC) today announced a selection of storage devices for "professional filmmakers or extreme action photographers."
These include high-performance CFexpress 4.0 Type A memory cards and three portable SSDs in the Envoy lineup, all of which are now or in early May.
It's always better to have more options.
Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A cards: Maximum performance for Sony action cameras
Per OWC, with real-world 1850MB/s read and 1700MB/s write performance and VPG200 certification to work with all Sony camera settings, the new Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A cards have enough speed to deliver maximum performance even for 8K video recording, pro-slow motion (up to 240 fps), or Pro-high resolution burst RAW photography.
The storage company says the new cards have been tested "under the most aggressive camera settings to ensure delivery of the highest reliability and performance". With CFexpress 4.0 technology, they can reduce ingestion time by 2x or more compared to CFexpress 2.0 cards and by 6x or more vs SD cards.
The new cards also include a Type A-to-Type B adapter for fast content-copying to a computer via a USB4 connection.
New Envoy SSD and larger capacities of existing Envoy Pro Mini and Envoy Pro Elektron
Other than the new CFexpress 4.0 cards, OWC also announced a few new offerings in its Envoy lineup.
First and foremost is the entirely new Envoy SSD portable SSD, which features USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) and claims sustained copy speeds of up to 1000MB/s without thermal throttling thanks to the "aircraft-grade aluminum housing."
With up to 2TB of storage space, the new palm-size USB-C drive seems to have enough to join the long list of portable SSDs for those wanting to carry lots of data on the go. It's somewhat a more mainstream version of the Thunderbolt-only Envoy Pro SX.
Speaking of storage space, OWC also released a 4TB of its existing Envoy Pro Elektron, which is a "ruggedized, crushproof, dustproof, and waterproof IP67-rated pocket-sized drive" with similar USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard that can deliver up to 1011MB/s of real-world performance.
Finally, the Envoy Pro Mini, one of the tiniest yet versatile thumb drives that supports both USB-C and regular USB-A ports, also gets a capacity boost to 2TB. With this type of storage space, portable backups and data have never been more portable.
Pricing and Availability
According to OWC, the Atlas Pro CFexpress 4.0 Type A cards are now available for pre-order and will ship in May. The suggested prices are $319.99 for 480GB and $519.99 for 960 GB. The USB4 super-fast Atlas CFexpress 4.0 Type B readers are also available as standalone devices, starting at $79.99.
The all-new Envoy SSD is also now available for pre-order and will ship in May for $149.99 (1TB) or $279.99 (2TB). The latest 4TB Envoy Pro Elektron is now available for purchase for $579.99.
And finally, the 2TB Envoy Pro Mini is also available for purchase now at $299.99.
