It’ll never be possible for FSD to be full self-driving. Period. So the naming itself is a lie. The cost is real. So yes, it’s a scam. More here.

You can subscribe and try, William, but FSD will likely disappoint you. The car just doesn’t have enough sensors for what it promises.

It is my understanding FSD works more on local streets and Autopilot is for dividend highways. I am looking at the FSD subscription as an alternative to installing hand controls on a car as I suffer from mild neuropathy, which reduces the feeling in my feet. Assuming both hands on the wheel and being an attentive driver, would FSD allow me to be more independent? I have recently ordered a 2023 Long Range Model Y with the standard Autopilot and am looking to subscribe to FSD for $199 a month, rather than the $15k upgrade.

Yeap. Like I said, FSD is a scam. Wouldn’t be surprised of class action lawsuits on this front at some point.

Since you seem so serious:

“Autopilot” is misleading at best and completely wrong at worst.

For one, per what you presented, it does not apply to cars — we don’t call a driver a “captain.” For two, it doesn’t work the way it does on an airplane, where it can fly the aircraft for hours unattended. In fact, if you expect to work that way — and we don’t know what to expect since again it’s not applicable — you could kill yourself. Some did. For three, this post is mainly about the Full-Self-Driving feature, which has been a lie, as I mentioned in the post.

There’s nothing appropriate or inappropriate about naming anything. You can name your dog “cat,” and that’s fine — Elon named his youngest child, per his words, after “a cat running across the keyboard,” and no one can have any say about that.

The point is you can name anything whatever you want. But when naming something with the intention to fool others, then it’s a lie. Tesla has been bragging about its cars “driving by themselves” from the get-go. And “Autopilot” and “FSD” are part of that largely false narrative.

I know you’re joking (at least I hope) but the word “Autopilot” is defined as I presented. It does not mean human oversight is not required. People misunderstand what an “Autopilot” is.
